First of all, I would like to congratulate you on your new job! And good luck for those of you who are planning or looking for a new job!
In this page, I will discuss the process of changing or transferring job in Malaysia, which has two phases. Your current working visa needs to be cancelled and a new working visa needed to be applied.
To start, make sure you have enough visa validity when you want to apply to another company, to avoid risk of getting it expired and send back home when something happens. 2-3 months before the expiration date, your current company will ask you or inform you that your visa needs to be renewed, so I highly recommend making sure you had secured a job by then if you plan to change a job.
Once you secured a new job, there must be an arrangement when will be your last working date from your current company and the start working date to your new company, to make sure the application process will go smoothly. You will need to coordinate the dates between the two companies.
Also, you have to prepare and submit the visa application requirements to the new company which I am sure you are familiar with, since you applied the visa before, recap of the requirements below (ask your new company):
- Scan copy of all the pages of the passport with minimum of 1 year validity and minimum number of 6 empty pages.
- Passport size photo (blue background, 3.5cmx5.0cm).
- Updated Resume.
- Scan colored copy of the educational certificate.
- Income tax declaration slip issued by Inland Revenue Board (IRB) from previous employment.
- Dependent pass requirements.
Steps:
- The current company needs to do the online visa cancellation. They will inform you when they are going to do it.
- Once done, they will get a “Release Letter” then they will send the letter to you for you to send to your new company.
- Duration: 1-2 days
- The new company will do the online visa application and they will need the “Release Letter” from step#1 which you need to provide in order to do so.
- Once done, they will get an “Acknowledgement Letter” then they will send the letter to you for you to send to your current company.
- Duration: 1-2 days
- The current company will do the physical cancellation process 1 month before the visa cancellation date. This means you have to send them your physical passport and the “Acknowledgement Letter” from Step#2.
- Duration: 2-3 days
- Once the physical cancellation is done, they will give your passport back with the stamp in the working visa page stating that the visa is cancelled on certain date, and another extra stamp on new page stating the same thing.
- You need to scan both pages and send to the new company.
- Duration: 0 day
- Send the scan copy of the relevant pages to the new company then they will again upload it online for the continuation of the process.
- Duration: 10-14 days
- You will get a notification email and the MDEC letter once the working visa was approved.
- The new company will then ask your physical passport for them to apply the new working visa sticker and stamp it to your passport.
- Duration: 5-7 days
You got your new visa! Yey!
I hope this helps you to have a bit of understanding regarding the process flow.
Reminder, do not hesitate and always ask for the next step to your current and new company if you have doubts and uncertainty to avoid unnecessary waiting time and delay.
Thank you and have a great day!
