There are many ways how you can get to Singapore from Malaysia. Via own/rental car, plane, train and bus. The most common choice anyone will choose is the plane since it is the most convenient and it will only take an hour in the air. In here, i will share my travel experience by using bus/coach and the reason why.
Transportation from Malaysia to Singapore
BUS. The cheapest public transportation you can get but also have the longest hours of travel of 6 hours compared to plane and train. Why do i choose bus/coach over the others? (1) If you want to travel within the budget, (2) see the nice view of Malaysia while travelling, (3) if you enjoy the journey of long ride and you want to (4) experience the process of crossing border via land, then this is a good choice for you. Bookings are available online on many sites like redbus, easybook, busonlineticket and simple search in google will give you several other more. I use redbus (StarMart bus liner) to book and you can get a VIP coach already around 35-50RM, the prices are depending on time and place of departure. The bus are very nice, seats are wide, comfy and has a lot of space. If you are lucky, the bus might have an outlet beside every seats that you can use to charge your phone.
There are a lot of possible departure stop for the bus, i took mine from Berjaya Times Square which is the most common one and is near the twin tower. The bus will wait until 10 mins from the time of departure and is expected to have 2 stopover for toilet break (even i book the “no stopover” bus). Estimated first break is after 1 hour and one is after another 1.5 hours. You may bring some money when you go for breaks as the stops have some bending machines and small stalls that sells drinks and food in case you forget to bring your own snack. TIP: Make sure when you go to stopover to bring your valuables with you. It will not hurt as well if you inform the driver directly or ask for number because some of the bus conductor do NOT check if all passengers got back.
You will go thru 2 immigration and you will need to go down the bus for the stamp. The bus will wait for about 20-30 mins for the whole process and depending on the bus, sometime they extend if they know there still a lot of passengers inside. It is possible for you to be left out even you paid your tickets if you got delayed in the immigration, but still you can catch the next bus of same bus liner/company.
TIP: (1) Make sure to prepare your passport on hand and remove it from the cover. (2) Remember your bus number cause obviously it will not go to the same door as you and you will need to find it after the passport stamp. (3) Bring a pen if you are going for vacation cause you need to fill up form in SG immigration. (4) Prepare your return ticket digital or physical copy
After a total of more or less 5 hours, first immigration is for the Malaysian immigration going out of the country. Make sure to always have your valuable in you but no need to bring all your luggage cause they will need to check your passport only. Go inside the premises and straight to one of the booth and show you passport. It will take approximately 1-2 minutes for the officer to check and put stamp on your passport then you can pass the security going to the other side of the building then find and get in to your bus.
Second immigration is after 30 mins to an hour depending on the traffic, for entering Singapore land (There are hundreds of trucks getting in and out of Singapore border everyday). This time you will need to bring ALL your belongings with you and go inside the immigration. If you are going for vacation, you need to fill up form available in the counter in front of gates before you queue. You will present your passport, form and your return ticket then you may proceed to customs to check all your bags and then back to the bus. The whole process should only take 15-30 mins.
After an hour or more, you will now arrive at your destination which is Golden Mile Tower for me 😀 From there, it is 5mins walk to the mrt and bus station.
TIP: It will not hurt if you ask for the bus driver contact number in case the bus took off without you if you got delayed in the immigration or any other reasons and you left your luggage inside the bus.
Hi! I am travelling from Malaysia to Singapore by bus. Do you know whether it is okay to bring a hair iron? or will they confiscate it in the immigration. Aside from that, how much fee did you get when you withdraw using your BPI account in Malaysia? Thank you!
